Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular

BACKSTORY (Jan. 16, 2003 —January 11, 2016): “Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular” was a show at the Hyperion Theater, located in the Hollywood Backlot section of Disney’s California Adventure. An original Disney musical “Disney’s Steps in Time” (February 8, 2001 - October 14, 2001) was the premiere production at the Hyperion. Afterwards, the Broadway musical “Blast!” (2001-2002) followed in a condensed version that starred a few members from the original Broadway Cast. “Disney’s Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular” was a guest favorite since its 2003 debut. The 45-minute Broadway-type show had top notch songs (from the Disney film), sets, special effects, and talent. Alan Menken composed a new song for the production, “To Be Free”, based on a musical cue from the film. Much of the show’s success was owed to the comedic talents of the genie, known for his ever-changing adlibs.
